El Morro is another popular Puerto Rican landmark that houses leftovers of the past 16th century Spanish fortress, and maintains a museum inside. The structure was designed to protect the Old San Juan fort from intense attacks of the sea. Most of the historically important places and monuments of this island are concentrated in this area.
